Who we are
History
A visit of some teachers of Primary school Arnissas, Prefecture of Pella, which came in touch with a Lithuanian school in Siauliai through a teacher exchange program on September 2004, was the beginning.
Some time later, on March 2005, a Greek teacher took part to a conference in Lithuania, organized by a Greek association, based in Vilnius, and had the theme: “The heritage of Byzantine culture”.
During the conference the teacher came in contact with members of the Greek community of Lithuania, which expressed their willingness and their need for intercultural relationships and ways of cooperation. The same willingness was testified from many Lithuanian teachers, professors, representatives and leader associations and the Lithuanian Orthodox church as well.
After testifying these proposals for cooperation, our members founded the association: “Greek Educational – Cultural association, friends of Baltic countries”, which name is based on the Greek communities of Lithuanian and the rest Baltic countries, with whom we want to cooperate.
Our material
Targets
According with the articles of our association and the vision which our members have, the aim of this association is to contribute to the spread of the Orthodox – Hellenic culture, in cooperation with the Greek communities of the Baltic countries. Our association will use the following ways:
1. Using the contacts with the Greek communities of the Baltic countries in order to find ways of cooperation.
2. Redaction of printed material.
3. Cultural and educational exchanges and festivals.
4. Collaboration with the Orthodox church of Baltic countries.
5. Preparation and contribution in creating Greek schools in Baltic countries and staff in order to spread the Greek language.
6. Cooperation with various organizations, universities, technical institutions and E.U.
7. Using media with articles, interviews, discussions e.g.
8. Foundation and functioning of scientific schools, museums e.g. using educational material.
