The results of the Socrates – Grundtvig 2 preparatory meeting in Edessa
The Greek Educational and cultural association friends of Baltic countries www.balticfriends.gr invited for a preparatory meeting in Edessa – North Greece 4 representatives from the Baltic countries for 6 days from 2nd to 7th of December 2006 in the frame of a Socrates – Grundtvig 2 project.
Our visitors were 2 people from Lithuania and they represented the “VILNIUS UNIVERSITY CHAMBER MUSIC ENSEMBLE” and the “Liaudiskos muzikos kapela SELMIAI” from Siauliai, 1 person from Latvia who represented the “FOLK DANCE GROUP “SAIME” FROM LATVIAN ETHNOGRAPHIC OPEN-AIR MUSEUM” and 1 person from Estonia who represented the “Estonian Folk Art and Craft Union”.
The program of their visit included many institutions in our town of Edessa, the Folklore association and the museum, the folklore museum of Edessa, the Youth Day care center “Peritechno”, ORAMA institution, the Cultural association Alexander the Great, the Odium of Edessa and of course the Municipality of Edessa. We had excursions in the area of central Macedonia - North Greece. We visited Thessaloniki, Veria, the ancient areas Vergina and Pella palace, the spring thermal water Pozar and the city of green and water Edessa.
In the frame of our workshop we discussed all the possibilities for collaboration between our institutions, and the activities for the next 2 years. We met the representatives of the associations of Alexander the Great, the association of Pontos in Edessa, the Minor Asia Association, the Byzantine songs and music choir and the association of Vlachon.
We thank all the participants for all the meetings and the workshops he had, the Municipality of Edessa who support us. We are trying to present our countries and the beauties of Greece and the Baltic states and want to create common activities in European dimension, like common music band, common choirs, to create CD with music and DVD film for a final product. In the frame of this project we want to organize seminars for adults education and international conference in some cities of our countries about our culture and traditional art, our music, our traditional costumes, and the traditional meals.
We are waiting to hear your ideas and why not to collaborate with each institution who is interested to work with our group. The theme of our meeting was “The traditional art is the bridge between culture of Baltic countries and Greece”.
